15 years of saving seeds

Since 2011 the Australian Seed Bank Partnership has worked across the country to build a seed safety net. Our 15th anniversary is a chance to celebrate our achievements, the people that power it, and plan the next chapter of plant conservation action. Behind every seed banked is the potential for a species to survive.

‘Life begins with seeds - and so does our best chance to save it. Through my work with Kew's Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst, I have witnessed how seed banking partnerships are beacons of hope and international cooperation at a time when we need it most. The Australian Seed Bank Partnership is a vital part of this global story, safeguarding over 18,000 native plants for future generations. As they celebrate 15 years, I’m proud to support their work conserving Australia’s unique flora’.

What we do matters

Australia’s native plants are under increasing pressure from habitat loss, climate change, more frequent and intense fires, invasive species and disease. These threats can push species towards extinction, often before species are fully understood or protected.

Seed banking is preventative conservation. We provide long-term insurance for wild plant diversity, protecting species today for recovery tomorrow. But banking is just the beginning! Our work enables:

Our Partnership brings together seed banks and environmental organisations from across the country creating conservation pathways that no single institution could achieve alone. This national network is key to saving Australian seeds.

Our vision is more than just seeds in a vault... it's creating the knowledge, partnerships and practical tools needed to help our flora flourish.

Our impact

For 15 years, we have led a national effort to build Australia’s seed safety net by safeguarding tens of thousands of species and driving conservation action where it matters. Our work is proof that coordinated, science-led seed banking can protect biodiversity at scale.

Help protect what we can't afford to lose

Seed banking is one of the most practical ways to prevent plant extinction. It protects species before they decline and supports future restoration.

But right now, thousands of species are still missing from conservation seed banks, or collections are too small to support plant recovery.

This is where you come in

We are a charity that needs your support to Bank the Bush.
Help us secure seeds today so Australia’s plants can recover tomorrow.

Make a tax deductible donation to help protect Australia’s plants for the future

Your donation will support

– Threatened and at-risk species needing urgent action.

– Regionally significant and culturally important flora.

– Plants and communities vulnerable to emerging threats.

– Strengthening restoration readiness of existing collections.

Double your impact!

Thanks to Wild Country Environmental Fund and Mr Phillip Cornwell, every donation is matched up to $15,000.
