National Science Week - Greenlight for Girls, Canberra 2017

Greenlight for Girls is an international organisation based in Brussels, boasting over 500 volunteers across every continent. The organisation is dedicated to inspire girls of all ages and backgrounds to pursue STEM subjects. The Australian Seed Bank Partnership joined Bush Blitz at Melrose Senior High School on 12 August to deliver a Biodiversity Detectives workshop as part of this year’s Greenlight for Girls event in Canberra.

Over 150 girls aged between eight and 16 participated in 10 different themed STEM workshops. The Biodiversity Detectives workshop was delivered four times throughout the day to over 50 girls highlighting the incredible diversity of Australia’s native seeds and the importance of Australia's native bees for their pollination. The girls also got to label their very own seed collections and make bee hotels for native bees. You can check out the Greenlight for Girls website here.

We hope to see many of these young science enthusiasts join the world of botany and seed collecting some day soon!
