Collecting in North Qld

The conservation seed bank at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens has been involved recently in the collection of 22 taxa from North Queensland and sending the associated biological and ecological data on these collections to the Millennium Seed Bank Data Warehouse at Kew in the United Kingdom. The Brisbane Botanic Gardens conservation seed bank has been involved with the Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst Place in the U.K. since 2004, and has contributed significantly to the ex situ conservation of 1000 Queensland taxa. At present Garden staff are working with the University of the Sunshine Coast in understanding the biology of the endangered species Philotheca sporadica which occurs in Central Queensland and is being threatened by development in the region.
